Waygrid AI Gateway is now generally available

Today we are announcing the general availability of the Waygrid AI Gateway, the newest product on the Waygrid platform. After a year of development with design partners in banking, insurance, retail, and the public sector, the AI Gateway is now available to every Waygrid customer, in every deployment model, in all 28 regions.

The premise is simple. Enterprises are adopting AI faster than they can govern it, and the gap between the two is where cost overruns, data exposure, and compliance findings live. The AI Gateway closes that gap by giving your organization one governed point of access to every LLM provider, managed by the same platform, policies, and audit trail that already govern your APIs.

What general availability includes

General availability is not the beta with a new label. Over the past year our design partners pushed the product through real production workloads, and the capabilities we are shipping today are the ones that survived that contact. The core of the release:

• Intelligent model routing across 15+ LLM providers and your own private deployments, balancing cost, latency, and quality for each request, with automatic failover when a provider degrades or goes dark.
• Cost governance with token-level metering and budgets by department, team, and application, enforced in real time rather than reconciled at the end of the month.
• Data protection guardrails, including PII redaction and prompt-injection screening, applied before anything leaves your organization.
• Semantic caching, which our early customers have used to reduce spend on repeat inquiries by 30 to 40 percent.
• Full auditability, with every AI interaction recorded in the same tamper-proof log as the rest of your traffic.

Why it lives on the platform, not beside it

Many organizations are evaluating standalone AI gateways. We took a different view: AI traffic is enterprise traffic, and it deserves the same governance as everything else that carries your data. Because the AI Gateway shares the Waygrid policy engine, a rule defined once, for example a data residency requirement or an authentication standard, applies to your APIs and your AI workloads alike. Your auditors see one trail. Your teams learn one platform.

The alternative is a familiar trap. A separate AI gateway means a separate policy model, a separate audit export, a separate place for residency rules to drift out of alignment, and a separate team to keep it all current. Every enterprise that has lived through gateway sprawl once already knows how that story ends. Putting AI traffic on the platform that already governs the rest of the estate is how you avoid rerunning it.

Median customers in our early availability program reduced AI spend by 38 percent while expanding usage, because governed adoption replaced cautious hesitation.

What our design partners taught us

The most consistent lesson from the past year was that the blocker to AI adoption in large organizations is rarely the model. It is the inability to answer three questions: what data is leaving, what it is costing, and who is accountable. Teams were not hesitating because the technology disappointed them; they were hesitating because nobody could sign off on those three unknowns.

Once a governed path removed the unknowns, adoption did not creep, it accelerated. A bank that had frozen its pilots reopened them within weeks of routing them through the gateway, because the risk conversation had an answer. That pattern, governance unlocking adoption rather than restraining it, showed up across every sector we worked in, and it is the reason we built the product the way we did.

Available now

The AI Gateway is available today in Waygrid Cloud, in your own cloud environment, and on-premises, including air-gapped deployments for sovereign and regulated estates. Existing customers can enable it from the console, and because it inherits your existing policies, most are routing their first governed AI traffic the same afternoon.
